Celebrating Local Women in Business

To honor the contributions of working women and the employers who support working women and their families, Business and Professional Women’s Foundation celebrates National Business Women’s Week® (NBWW) during the third week of October.

We’re joining in that celebration and recognizing some of the outstanding woman-owned businesses in our region that greatly contribute to our local economy and community.

The most recent data collected from the Economic Census and Survey of Business Owners by the U.S. Census (2012), indicates that women-owned businesses make a large impact on our region. In the Knoxville MSA, there were 23,445 female-owned businesses, totaling nearly $4 billion in sales, receipts or value of shipments. These businesses also paid out nearly $773 million in combined annual payroll.

Each year, the Knoxville Chamber honors a woman-owned business with a Pinnacle Business Award. This award is presented to an outstanding East Tennessee woman-owned business, not part of a regional, national or global franchise, that is independently-owned and operated/controlled by a female or females.
