Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the financial need for our students may be greater than ever. To help meet this need, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs is pleased to announce that his free school supply event, School Mania, will be returning on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Jacob Building in Chilhowee Park (3301 E. Magnolia Avenue).
Please be advised of some necessary changes for this year’s event.
Because of the current social distancing guidelines, School Mania 2020 will now be a limited contact, drive-thru distribution event. Last year over 3,500 individuals visited the Jacob Building at Chilhowee Park to receive their free school supplies and enjoyed food and games. This year, staff and volunteers will be unable to host the event indoors with the same activities.
The Office of Mayor Jacobs is asking for any who are able to participate in the event to please drop off your quantity of 1,500 school supplies from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on August 3, 4 and 5—Monday through Wednesday. Those who are donating will be notified of the location for drop off closer to the date of the event. If you would like to arrange for contactless delivery or pick up, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for further assistance. Once all school supplies are received, they will be compiled into 1,500 bags for distribution on the day of the event. With this method, it is imperative that all supplies be received before noon on Wednesday, August 5 as staff will be unable to add items to the bags after they are initially stuffed.
Unfortunately individual booths for the event will not be provided. However, you are welcome to add your company logo or contact information to your donated school supplies. If you would like to participate in the event as a volunteer to distribute the school supply bags, please feel free to wear clothing with your logo as well.
This year has been challenging for Knox County families and businesses. If you are unable to provide 1,500 of a school supply but would still like to participate, please indicate the number you are able to provide on the registration link and staff will look to partner you with another organization to fulfill that supply need.
