City of Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon and Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs announced on Monday a community plan for phased reopening. The plan, which takes effect Friday, May 1, reinforces the importance of individual and employer safety measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, highlighting five core actions: physical distancing, wearing cloth face coverings, handwashing, cleaning surfaces and staying home if you are sick or instructed to isolate/quarantine.

Each phase of the plan lasts a minimum of 28 days, and Knox County Health Department officials will monitor benchmark criteria including number of new cases, hospital capacity and death rates to determine mid-phase adjustments or community readiness to move to the next phase.
