StoneMill Log & Timber Homes reaches a milestone in 2019 as they celebrate 45 years of business as a national log and timber frame home provider. Established in 1974 by John R. Sterchi, Jr., the company remains family owned and operated from its original four-acre property in Knoxville, Tennessee, StoneMill’s national headquarters, that houses all aspects of the business.
The original StoneMill log homes were constructed in the traditional dove-tailed, chinked style commonly found in the Great Smoky Mountains. This hand-hewn craftsmanship remains the company’s signature stylebut other log profiles are offered today. Log-on-log wall systems as well as timber frame and hybrid homes are options.
After surviving the economic downturn of 2007-2009, the company’s business model evolved to focus onservices including a complete design-build solution. “We realized we needed to go beyond delivering a quality set of plans and erecting logs,” states Rob Cantrell, StoneMill’s president. “All aspects of design, fabrication, and even trucking, are handled in-house. Creekside Construction, an entity of StoneMill, handles all log erection, dry-in, and even local turn-key work.”
“We became a service company with an excellent product,” comments Mathew Sterchi, vice president of marketing and sales, “instead of a product company with a service. We have a dedicated and experienced team working to exceed our client’s expectations. Our project manager goes a step beyond to consult with general contractors completing the home after the shell is dried in. It has proven to be a smart move.”
Firmly rooted in tradition with an eye on the future, StoneMill continues developing creative home designs, incorporating innovative building products, and expanding their market share. As their slogan states,“Traditional homes designed and built for your lifestyle,” StoneMill will continue to help turn their client’s vision into reality.
StoneMill will celebrate 45 years of bringing ideas to life with Logapalooza on March 30th, 2019 from 1-6pm. This event will be a day filled with demonstrations, educational sessions, vendors, a log raising, food and fun. Registration information can be found HERE.
