Knox County elects a new mayor this year as Mayor Tim Burchett’s term comes to a close.

In the May 1 Knox County primary election, voters select one candidate from either political party to move forward to the general election on Aug 2. Three Republicans and two Democrats are on the primary ballot.

As head of the executive arm for Knox County, the county mayor regularly examines the accounts, records and operations of every county department, office and agency, and prepares and submits a nearly $800 million budget to the County Commission for approval each year.

The Knox County Mayoral Debate took place Thursday, April 5 at Jewelry Television, 9600 Parkside Drive. The event was presented by the Knoxville Chamber and the Knoxville Area Association of Realtors.
