Designated as Small Business Saturday, the Saturday following Thanksgiving is a nationwide movement aiming to influence potential buyers to choose small, local shops during one of the busiest times of the holiday season. In contrast to its counterparts, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which promote chain retail stores and online commerce, Small Business Saturday promotes shops that have the greatest economic impact on local communities.

In Knoxville, 92 percent of companies are categorized as small businesses meaning they employ 50 workers or less. These establishments account for nearly 50 percent of the local workforce, providing more than 200,000 jobs in the region.

Although these businesses are small, they are mighty. Shop small this Saturday, Nov. 25, and help make an impact on our local community and economy.
